Recently, developers from Google's Magenta introduced a virtual room in the browser known as Lo-Fi player that lets you play with various musical beats of instruments. Lo-Fi is basically a music generating tool which allows you to select and create music of your choice. In a blog post, the developers of this AI system stated that if anyone has ever listened to the popular Lo-Fi Hip Hop streams while working and at the same time imagined if they were the producer, it will now allow them to create their own music and vibe. The developers chose the Lo-Fi Hip Hop because it's a popular genre where the structure of the music is relatively simple. According to them, this limited flexibility assisted in ensuring that the music always makes some sense.

A new Google Magenta project (created by an intern!) lets you mix lo-fi, hip-hop music tracks to build a custom music room in your browser, with no musical ability required. Magenta is designed to use Google's machine learning systems for the creation of art and music, and the Lo-Fi Player is a fun example of what it can do. When you open Lo-Fi Player, you're taken to a pixellated virtual "room" where you click different objects -- a clock, a cat, or a piano, for instance-- in the room to change the different tracks, like the bass line and the melody. "The view outside the window relates to the background sound in the track, and you can change both the visual and the music by clicking on the window," Lo-Fi Player creator Vibert Thio wrote in a blog post. Thio writes that the team chose the format of a music-generating room rather than a composition tool or musical instrument because it's "a popular genre with a relatively simple music structure."

Lo-Fi Player, a new project out of Google Magenta, wants to help people play around with music creation -- no experience necessary. Lo-Fi Player is a pixelated, 2D virtual room that runs in a web browser. It lets you mix lo-fi hip hop tracks by clicking on different objects in the room, and it uses machine learning to give the tracks a little finesse. Once you have clicked around on everything from the guitars to the window, plants and desk and generated sounds you like, you can share your Lo-Fi Player room with friends. If you click the radio or TV, you'll trigger machine-learning models that produce a few new melodies, and you can click the green ceiling lamp to stop and start the music.
